I believe it was 11 am when I rolled out of bed this morning. Wow. And it’s not like we stayed up real late last night either. I love sleeping. I’m quite good at it. It is what I do when I’m sick or stressed. It definitely plays a part with how I cope with things. It’s the ultimate in lazy but it’s also restorative. I truly feel for insomniacs, though at one point, I wished that I was because so many great artists have suffered from insomnia and I thought I was missing out on some level of creativity in myself. I’ve never been the girl who wakes up to write things down, whether it’s for work or a bolt of creativity. If my dreams are vivid, I’ll try to write them down the next day. I dreamt last night, weird weird dreams that involved family and random people. I woke up crying and had that sense of relief and disbelief wash over me simultaneously. Dream feelings can feel so real that when you wake it’s sometimes hard to shake the residuals of those feelings.

The rest of today has been pretty mellow. Watching football, a trip to the grocery store, doing the dishes. DK will be coming over tonight (rather than tomorrow after school) so she’ll be here in a little while. We’ll have dinner and watch TV, it will be good to see her.

Tomorrow negotiations will resume between the WGA and the AMPTP. The strike continues in the meantime. Go WGA!!

Woo hoo! Jake was unanimously chosen to be the National League Cy Young Award winner! He is so deserving of it!
And in other baseball news, Barry Bonds was indicted today. What a day in the majors and the season’s over!

How’s your TV going these days? Are you missing Letterman, Leno, what about The Daily Show?
Here’s something to tide you over.
And because this video seems to say so much, I’m posting it here (though it’s everywhere online).
This writers strike is not over and while the head honchos at the studios keep talking out both sides of their mouths, it will go on. And I, along with 63% of America, are with them.
And here’s another video from the writers of the Colbert Report.

Somehow it got to be 9 pm. I’m not sure where the day went. Mondays are like that, I guess. It was back to my morning routine of doing the dishes and other small household chores today. Then it was catching up at work after being away for two days at my workshop. DK had the day off of school so went to a friend’s house. I picked her up around 5 pm and then we came home. Han had a session going so I dropped off DK and went to park since the client was in the driveway. Some days this would bug me, but I liked the little walk and the fact that it is November 12th and I’m wearing Birkenstocks with no socks and no jacket. I even sat outside in our backyard gazebo to make a few phone calls while Han finished up his session.
But then the evening got away from me, and between eating dinner, doing some laundry and spending some time together watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, it’s now after 9 and I’m ready for bed.

In other news, I urge you again to please support the WGA. Sign the petition, read the blog, if you’re in LA or NYC, go out and walk the line. Educate yourself because you’re not getting the story from the television news or most of the papers. The writers are everyday people who have talent putting pen to paper. They deserve what they’re asking for from big media. Don’t download or watch shows online, you’ll only be feeding the monster that wants to keep it all to himself.

I wish I had more energy to outline what a fabulous weekend I had. Full of music, friends, wee hours, wine and laughter.

This week I’m looking forward to Thursday when friends will gather to help celebrate my birthday. It’s a combination with one of Han’s shows and it will be downtown. My birthday is actually Monday, so we’re taking advantage of the opportunity to already be going to a bar and asking our friends to join us. Friday will also be fun, another gig (not Han’s) and then another friend’s birthday party. On Saturday, my parents will come down to visit and on Sunday, I’m going to relax. In the meantime, I need to finish “Love in the Time of Cholera” and keep up with my blogging. So far so good, every day in November!

Good night!

I’ve spent some time today learning about what the writers’ strike is all about. I am completely in support of the writers. If I could walk the picket lines with them I would. Though I don’t write for television, I keep up with some folks who do and their demands are not unreasonable. All they’re asking for is to be paid when something they wrote gets broadcast online. Really. That’s all it is. It’s like how songwriters get paid when their songs are downloaded. They had previously wanted to get an increase in their residual pay for DVD’s (from 4 cents to a whopping 8 cents), but they dropped that point in an effort to compromise because it seemed that was a big stumbling block between them and the producers. But even once that was taken off the table, the producers still didn’t budge. Check it out for yourself:
Support the writers who come up with the lines you end up repeating throughout the day or over the course of your life. Support the writers who create those awesome headlines on The Daily Show and the Colbert Report. Support the writers who keep you in suspense at CSI. Support the writers because they aren’t independently wealthy and don’t have medical staff on call. Support the writers because it all starts with the words.
