National Poetry Month

Welcome to April! At work today, I sent an email to my department and a few other folks I know to see if they wanted to be on a poem-a-day email list that I’ll do all month. I did it last year on a type of intranet we had, but it’s since gone away.

So I figured if I can do it at work, I can do it here, too. I’m sure many of the poems are ones I’ve posted here before at one point or another, but I’m sure you’ll come to terms with that.

Today after work, I felt exhausted. I had 6 meetings, and after the last one I was just done. I came home and have just lounged about. Han joked that I should find a show that had ghosts who cooked and renovated international homes, it would be called Top Ghost Property Hunters. 🙂

Last night, I went out to dinner with my friend, The Becky. She had a birthday over the weekend, and we got together to celebrate. We went to Bay Park Fish Co. I didn’t love what I had, but I think it was just a poor choice.

I’m not a big fan of April Fool’s Day. I can be pretty gullible. Thankfully, I didn’t fall for anything (that I know of!)

Here’s a small little something. It’s not what I posted at work, but the other thing about National Poetry Month is it’s a time to try to write new things.

Crow’s Nest

outside a third floor office
a crow couple has made their nest

some co-workers and I watched
them build it
first with sticks, then softer material

the office-holder reported
bird fights that may have been mating
and how one crow would sit on or in the nest
while another stood watch

the fascination with the nest
and the crows doesn’t surprise me

we personify the birds
try to figure out their logic
assume they feel like humans
about family, protection, home

Looking forward to read all the poetry 🙂 Is the crow’s nest a fact?
