Late birthday surprise

Last night after dinner, my mom insisted that we watch a movie and stay up until midnight to enjoy every moment of my 50th birthday. I found it a little odd but also kind of nice. During the movie, she kept getting up (I need water, I need to go the bathroom, maybe Lulu needs to go out), plus she was getting and sending texts. She wasn’t following the movie, and I was getting annoyed.

Then around 10:30 pm, our doorbell rang, and she said, “Get it.” I was, on the one hand, a little freaked out, and on the other hand, hoping it was my sister. My second hand was right! I had had an inkling of her coming, but I have to say my mom played it very cool to the point that I had tossed out the idea. Same with Sandy. We had talked earlier that day, around 3:30 pm, and it seemed like she was all set for her weekend at home.

But by gosh, there she was on my doorstep! Of course, I cried. Then we drank champagne and ate all of our leftover desserts we’d brought home from the restaurant.

Surprise! Sandy’s here!

Today has been very nice. She & I walked to Starbucks this morning and enjoyed breakfast. After that, we all chatted a bit, Mom took a nap, and Sandy did her Twitter book club. I cleaned up a bit and responded to more birthday messages.

We got lunch/dinner from Reventaco, and then it was time for Sandy to watch Utah play college football and for me to finish some editing work I had to do. Utah won, and I’m done working, and now I’m ready for bed.

Such a fantastic day hanging with my mom and sister.
