Alright! These last three have been pretty packed, and I haven’t had time to write at the end of the night. It’s now almost 11 pm at the end of day 6, and I’m pretty tired, so you’re only getting one day tonight. Let’s go!
Day 4
We had to get up early in order to be ready to meet the driver for our transfer from the hotel to the train station. He arrived promptly at 8 am and we were on our way to Gare de Lyon. The driver was SUPER nice. He spoke several languages, but Paris was his hometown. He also graciously escorted us into the train station to give us the Gare de Lyon 101 so we would know where to go when the time came. We were about an hour early for our train, which gave us time to have a coffee and croissant, which were both very good. When the platform for our train was announced, we had to quickly get a move on. Our train was LONG, and we were on coach 12, almost all the way to the end. We had first class tickets so the seats were nice and comfy, plus we had a table between our seats. But here’s what: you are responsible for carrying, stowing, and retrieving your own luggage, and our first class seats were upstairs! Oof. That was a bit tough. Sandy handled the heavy carrying like a champ, which was awesome. And then we were off to Spain!

The trip takes about six hours, and I spent most of it either reading or sleeping. At 3:45 pm, we arrived in Girona, Spain, where my cousin, Sonia, was waiting for us. It was so great to see her! We got her car loaded up and headed to her house in Santa Cristina for a brief merienda, then we traveled on to Playa de Aro (or Platja d’Aro) where Sonia had booked us a room for the night. While Mom rested for a bit, Sandy, Sonia, and I went ‘para tomar algo’ meaning to go have a drink. We were able to catch up a little bit, which was really nice. Then it was time to get ready to meet up with the rest of the family! Sonia left to pick up her mom, sister, and niece. Her daughter was also going to be meeting us.
We went to Llevant which is right on the main street of Playa de Aro. It was great to see everyone again – it had been eight years since we last them in 2015, Seeing my mom and her sister together was very special.

We ate and drank and talked and laughed and sang. It was a happy reunion all in all. We left the restaurant around midnight! They all walked us back to our hotel where we said our goodbyes and hasta mananas. We would see them all again the next day, but it was time for bed. Here’s a group shot of all of us at dinner. Until I write again!
