Day 8: Barcelona

We didn’t get going today until 11 am, and I was a bit ‘hangry’ by then. We went to Pasteleria Escriba and had croissants and coffee, and I felt right again.

We had 12 pm tickets to tour Palau Güell, containing early work of Antoni Gaudi, and I’m here to tell you, it was stunning. He didn’t design the whole palace, but his touch is definitely all around, and can be seen, quite spectacularly, in the facade, the windows, and the chimneys on the roof. I was enchanted.

After the tour, we stopped for a drink in Placa Reial, then we had a three o’clock lunch reservation at a restaurant that we went to in 2015 with my mom’s cousin, Ferran (who has since passed), called Can Culleretes. We were so excited that our hotel is so close to it, literally on the next street! Our meal was, honestly, amazing. It was traditional Catalan food. We all three had the same thing! First: cannelones, Second: calamares a la romana, Dessert: Mom and I had crema catalana and Sandy had profiteroles with chocolate. We also drank a bottle of cava. Sandy & I had espresso after the meal. Damn! We were all so very pleased and totally satisfied.

We went back to the room after that and lounged for bit. Mom wanted to rest a while, but Sandy & I were ready for another walk so we headed out with our destination being Ciutadella Park. After a circuitous route, we got there. It had been raining our whole walk, but when we arrived, the sun came out. It was lovely.

We walked back to the hotel, then the three of us went to the hotel bar for a drink and a bit of tapas – we had a charcuterie board, and it was really good, hit the spot.

Tomorrow, some of the family is coming again to hang out for the afternoon, so that will be fun. Hasta manana!
